Geography: Intent
At St. Andrew’s, our aim is to prepare our students for the next stage of their education by ensuring they have a secure knowledge and understanding of Geography. Many of our children do not have the opportunities at home to travel abroad or even locally, and so we take our responsibility to open the world to them very seriously. Geography is taught discretely and there are also many opportunities for extending the children’s knowledge and skills beyond the Geography lessons.
Geographical skills are mapped from Nursery to Year 6 in a progressive way. Each year group completes one Geographical Skills unit.
We prioritise the children learning and remembering the knowledge laid out in our curriculum, rather than overloading them with extraneous information.
Note: At St. Andrew’s, each term covers a combination of History and Geography topics under the umbrella of Humanities.
